California Free Public Criminal Records

By Ben Kingsley

California is a very populous state and it is very challenging for law enforcers to maintain the peace and order in the state. Despite their efforts, criminals still find ways to carry out their modus operandi. To increase the security of the people, the government allowed the public to access and view CA Criminal Records, which they can find at the Department of Justice.

Various crime-related files such as police reports, arrest files, files of inmates, traffic infractions, and many others composed what is collectively known as a criminal file. The various files are initially filed at the office or department that have authority of over the offense done. Once the files are finalized, they are then submitted to the state's main storage for criminal files. The files are commonly requested for by individuals or parties that run backgrounds checks on other individuals or parties.

Every individual has the right to access criminal records because they are part of public records. An individual may request for his or her own records to check if there are any wrong information. If there are, the proper correction can be made by submitting an appeal to the appropriate office. The Department of Justice is quite strict when it comes to handling requests for records that is not the requestors own. Lawyers and law enforcers are usually the ones given the freedom to access them anytime. If you are neither, you have to have a valid reason why you want the records, just like employers and landlords who use the records to screen their job applicants and applying tenants.

When requesting for a certain criminal file, supply the name of the owner of the file. It is advantageous if you happen to know more information about files because it makes the search process less time-consuming. It also gives you a better shot at locating the right file, especially when it comes to people that have widely used names. When you submit a formal request for criminal files, you need to prepare a fingerprint card. The card is usually produced at a Local Police department that does a Local Live Scan for a $25 fee.

Criminal files are also available at privately-owned websites. The government permits such websites to operate as long as they entertain requests from members of the general public. If you browse the Internet, you will find several websites that are into such business. However, not all of them can be trusted. When conducting a search, you always want to assure that you are given genuine information. One way to gain assurance is by carrying out a history check on websites you plan on using. Try to see if their user feedbacks available. But beforehand, if you are unaware where to commence searching, choose the website that gives you the option of conducting a nationwide search.

Local Police Departments and County Sheriff's Offices are the ones responsible for creating and maintaining Police Arrest Records. Requests for the arrest documents are entertained at the respective offices as well. They create one every time an arrest executed, regardless of whether imprisonment is needed or not. If a person is acquitted of the offense he or she committed, the created files will be expunged from the general public.
